Spent a really pleasant Sunday lunch there on 28th Feb. Excellent food. The litte one with us was well catered for and all four of us left saying that we'll return. Oh and Doombar on tap. Excellent!

We have just returned from a long weekend at Cheddar. Again, we ate at The Gardeners Arms. Although the menu has changed the quality of the food remains first class. The lamb cutlets served on colcannon mash with courgette sauce were yummy, and the steaks were superb, of which are now being supplied by a butcher with the Royal Warrant, so Liz & phil could have been tucking into a similar steak LOL.
The hospitality again from Nick, Jo & Staff was great which is what we have become acustomed to. See you later in the year!

I just came across your web site and it brings back very fond memories of our vacation to Cheddar nearly 26 years ago.
My Father had rented a cottage (Whitewell?) and my wife and I stayed there for two weeks. And, we ate many of our meals at your establishment and I loved every one. Being a Hunter here in the USA, I was overwhelmed by the excellent wild game meals you prepared and the fantastic hospitality we received EVERYWHERE we went in the British Isles. It is my desire to someday take my children there to enjoy what we found so many years ago...
Thank you for brinking back memories!

After a hard cross country race on the medips, my wife and I stumbled across the Gardener's Arms, a beautiful country pub. A great selection of real ales and west country ciders. And the food, amazing, one of the best sunday lunches ever. Not heaped on the plate like most pub grub, but local, fresh products and the fact the landlord to tell us where all the food had came from as well. Honestly a true gem of a pub.

Hiya guys,
So sorry we didn't have time to pop in and say goodbye before we left yesterday, as usual we were running late, spent too much time on the cliff top walk!. I spoke to Dr Busker last night and gave him one of your cards that I had picked up, he says they are happy to travel to do a gig and regularly do gigs in Dorset. He said if you haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks you can go on his website and contact him through that it's www.doctorbusker.com hope it all works out you'll have to e-mail and let us know how it goes.
Thanks again for making our stay so enjoyable! It was a pleasure spending time with you both and your staff. Take care and give Dyson & Lenny a hug from us both (if you can catch Lenny for long enough!!).
We will be back again to brush up on our newly acquired table skittles skills, to have a pint or two of fine ale and eat more of your delicious food!
All the best,
Lorna & Mark xx

I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to The Gardeners Arms on that particular evening, the member of staff that you dealt with that evening walked out a little later on and has now been sacked because of her general conduct and attitude to yourselves, I am sorry that your wine was not as you liked it but as I recall I gave you a free bottle of wine in recompense for your bad expeirence..
Regards Nick Barrett

Hi All
Thank you for making us welcome again this Easter weekend. This time we had a four night stay and ate with you 4 times. The food was superb (as we have come to expect), the Sunday lunch was lovely ... proper gravy mmmm!!
The only downside was the Quiz, we came last but one (LOL)
You bar skittles are ready, they will be with you by the end of the week. John has suggested that you may want to laquer them.
See you all soon xx

Paul Sharp 08/03/0 13:00 Sunday Lunch
Party of five and we all had a great meal, the lamb shank was out of this world could not fault the food it was cooked to perfection If you are visiting Cheddar and you want some great food then you must track down the Gardners Arms
It was our first visit but there will be many more it makes such a change to have some great home cooked food instead of the ping food you now find in most pubs, well done to all at the Gardners Arms keep up the good work and thanks for making us so welcome.

Hi Jo, Nick & Everyone we met this time at The Gardeners Arms
This time we had a 5 day stay at Cheddar and ate with you all 5 nights and one lunchtime. Again the food was superb, as it was during our last visit in May.
The lamb shank was to die for, as I am particularly fond of mashed potatoes, this was my favourite meal.
Again, not a frozen chip or frozen veg was served, and there was always ample homemade coleslaw or potato salad or rice salad served with the salads.
John is looking forward to our return so as he can beat you all at Bar Skittles again!!! ( ha! ha!)
Thank you once again for making our stay one to remember.
Dee, John & Bramble

Sarah,
Thank you for your comments which have been discussed with the kitchen team, we welcome suggestions of this nature but I do feel slightly disappointed that you did not make your comments at the time of your visit in person. I am pleased that the rest of your party enjoyed their meal and hope that you return in the future.

Dear Gardener's Arms,
My family and I enjoyed a lovely meal at your pub today. However, I was very disappointed with the chickpea salad. The plate was full of lettuce leaves, the orange was just quartered and almost impossible to eat with a knife and fork and there was assorted salad items with very little of the other 'main' ingredients. May I point you and your chef to the BBC site below for how to present this dish? The chickpea salad in a bowl on a plate with a few green leaves and some new potatoes on the side would have made a much more appealing dish and would be a proper reflection of the quality of food the rest of my family enjoyed.

Yours sincerely

Fantastic dog friendly pub, great food and lovely atmosphere. So lovely to find a traditional pub that welcomes dogs, a wonderful alternative to the sports bars that other pubs limit you to when you have your dog. Arnie says 'I'll be back!".

Great pub, excellent food and fantastic hospitality. Can thoroughly recommend.
Ruby's second home - if she had her way she would live there permanently. Best doggie friendly venue in Somerset.

Such a lovely meal, the fish pie was delicious and the handmade puddings were stupendous! Can't praise it enough!! Just one thing, has anyone seen anything unusual in the bar area? We think we saw the shadow of an animal go across the carpet? is this pub had any hauntings before?? We shall defiantly be back for the food and beer though even though it is a long drive from bucks!
